Picture28

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder that slowly destroys thinking and memory skills and, gradually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.

Warning symptoms:

  • Memory loss that disrupts daily life
  • Difficulty handling money and paying bills
  • Problem completing easy and familiar tasks at home, at work
  • Reduced or poor judgment
  • Misplacing things
  • Changes in mood, personality, or behavior
  • Hallucinations
  • Low mood
  • Anxiety

Causes:

Alzheimer’s disease is developed by the abnormal build-up of proteins in or around the brain cells.

Diagnosis:

For the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s dementia, your doctor conducts various diagnostic tests to evaluate memory impairment and thinking skills, judge functional abilities, and identify behavioral changes. They also perform tests to rule out other possible impairment causes.

Treatment:

Management can improve the quality of life for patients with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, except for improving the quality of life. Treatment addresses several areas:

  • Helping people maintain brain health
  • Managing behavioural symptoms.
  • Slowing or delaying symptoms of the disease.
